Business loans with a 500 credit score

A 500 FICO closes the door on bank credit and SBA loans. It does not close the door on revenue-based financing, because those products are underwritten on your deposits rather than your credit file. Here is what is realistic, and what it costs.

Can you get a business loan with a 500 credit score?

Yes, but not a bank loan and not an SBA loan. At 500 FICO the products that remain open are revenue-based: a merchant cash advance, a working capital loan or a short-term loan, all underwritten primarily on your business bank statements. RAN Funding accepts applications from 500 FICO provided the business has at least 6 months of operating history and about $10,000 a month in revenue. Expect a factor rate starting at 1.08 rather than an interest rate, terms of 3 to 24 months, and funding in as little as the same day. A line of credit needs 575+, an SBA loan needs 680+.

What a 500 score actually changes

Personal credit is a proxy. Banks use it because it is cheap to check and it correlates with repayment across a large book. When your score is 500 the bank has no cheap way to price you, so it declines. That is a pricing decision, not a judgement about your business.

Revenue-based funders replace the proxy with the thing it was standing in for: money moving through your account. A specialist reads three to four months of business bank statements and looks at average daily balance, deposit consistency, number of negative days and whether there are existing advances being repaid. A business doing $40,000 a month with steady deposits and no NSF days is a better file at 500 FICO than a business doing $12,000 a month with six overdrafts at 640.

Context worth knowing before you apply anywhere: the Federal Reserve’s 2025 Small Business Credit Survey found only 42% of applicants received the full amount of financing they sought, and firms that borrowed from online lenders were far more likely to report higher-than-expected costs — 60%, against 32% of large-bank borrowers.1 Both halves of that matter here: partial approvals are normal, and the cost of speed is real.

What stays open at 500

Product Minimum score Amount Cost Speed
Merchant cash advance 500 $5,000 – $1,000,000 Factor rate from 1.08 Same day to 48 hours
Working capital loan 500 $5,000 – $1,000,000 Factor rate from 1.08 Same-day approval
Short term loan 500 Up to $3,000,000 Quoted per file Same day available
Equipment financing Varies — asset secured Full purchase amount Interest from 5% 48 to 72 hours
Business line of credit 575 $10,000 – $2,000,000 Interest from 1% / month 48 to 72 hours
SBA loan 680 $50,000 – $10,000,000 Prime + points 30 to 60 days

Equipment financing is the quiet exception. Because the equipment itself is the collateral, the lender’s downside is the resale value of the asset rather than your credit history, which widens approval and lowers the rate. If what you need money for is a machine, a vehicle or a piece of kit, ask about equipment financing before you ask about an advance.

What it costs, stated honestly

Revenue-based funding is priced with a factor rate, not an interest rate. A factor rate is a multiplier applied once to the amount advanced: 1.20 on $50,000 means $60,000 is repaid in total, no matter how long you take. Industry analysis puts the typical market range at 1.15 to 1.55, with effective annualised costs from roughly 40% to over 350% depending on how fast the balance clears.2 RAN’s network starts at 1.08, and the low end goes to the strongest files.

Repaying an advance early does not usually save money. The total is fixed at signing, so early payoff compresses the same dollars into less time and raises your effective annual cost. Ask specifically whether the agreement contains an early payoff discount before you sign. How to convert a factor rate to an APR →

Ten states now require providers of sales-based commercial financing to hand you a written cost disclosure before you sign, and California requires the cost to be presented as an annual percentage rate.3 If you are in one of those states, use the disclosure: it is the only document that puts total dollar cost and payment schedule on one page. Three things that move a 500-score file

  • Clean up negative days. Overdrafts and NSF fees are read as operating instability and they are visible on every statement you submit. A single clean month changes how a file reads.
  • Do not stack. An existing advance being repaid out of the same deposits is the most common reason a second application is declined or cut down. If you already have one, say so up front.
  • Deposit through the business account. Revenue routed through a personal account, cash kept outside the bank or income split across several accounts all make the business look smaller than it is.

What applying involves

The application takes about five minutes and runs a soft pull, which does not affect your personal credit score. There is no fee and no obligation. To get to an offer you will need a government-issued photo ID, a voided business check, and your most recent business bank statements Typically 3 months; some states require 4.

Common questions

What is the lowest credit score RAN Funding will consider?

500 FICO, provided the business has at least 6 months of operating history and around $10,000 a month in revenue. Below 500 the realistic route is equipment financing, where the asset secures the deal, rather than an unsecured advance.

Will applying hurt my credit score?

No. The application runs a soft pull to present options, which does not affect your personal credit score. Some products require a hard pull only if you choose to proceed, and you are told before that happens.

Can I get an SBA loan with a 500 credit score?

No. SBA loans through the network require a 680 credit score, two years in business, $200,000+ annual revenue and no bankruptcies or outstanding collections. SBA pricing is set as the Prime Rate plus a spread, which is why the credit bar is high.

Does a 500 score mean I will be offered the worst rate?

Not automatically. Pricing follows the bank statements more than the score: time in business, deposit consistency, average daily balance, negative days and whether you already have an advance outstanding. A strong deposit history at 500 can price better than a weak one at 620.

How much can I borrow at 500 FICO?

Revenue is the binding constraint, not the score. Advances and working capital loans run from $5,000 to $1,000,000, and offers are typically sized against monthly deposits rather than a multiple of credit quality.
