Where to Get a Business Loan in 2026: 7 Sources Compared by Approval Odds, Cost and Speed
Where you apply decides as much as what you apply for. The Federal Reserve’s 2026 survey shows the spread: small banks fully approved 57% of applicants and left 65% satisfied; online lenders took 29% of all applications and left 60% of their borrowers paying more than expected; credit unions approved fewer but satisfied the most. This guide compares the seven places a business can get a loan in October 2026, with approval odds, cost at Prime 7.00%, speed and the file each one wants, so you apply where you will actually be funded.

Where Is the Best Place to Get a Business Loan?
For an established business with two or more years of returns and 680+ credit, the best place to get a business loan is the bank or credit union that already holds your deposits (7% to 11%, 57% full approval at small banks) or an SBA lender (10.00% to 13.50%). For a business under two years old, with credit under 680 or needing money this week, the best place is an online lender or revenue-based funder (10% to 36% APR or a 1.15 to 1.45 factor, funded in one to five days), chosen by 29% of applicants in 2026 for speed and odds. For anyone who does not know which of those they are, the best place is a broker that compares all of them on one soft-pull application: RAN Funding presents the file to banks, SBA lenders, online lenders, equipment lenders, factors and revenue-based funders at once. Other sources (CDFIs, equipment captives, factors) fit specific needs covered below.

Banks and Credit Unions
Banks are the cheapest money and the slowest. The Kansas City Fed’s Q2 2026 survey put median variable rates on new bank term loans near 7% before the September hike, with new credit line balances up 20.9% year over year, so banks are lending, to the right files. Start with the bank that holds your operating account: it can see your cash flow and prices relationship customers lowest. Credit unions approve fewer applicants (44% in full) but satisfy the most (76%), and many now lend to businesses with a membership that takes minutes to open.
- Bring: two years of returns, year-to-date P&L and balance sheet, three to six months of statements, a debt schedule, collateral list.
- Expect: a hard pull, 1.25x cash flow coverage, a personal guarantee and often a blanket lien.
- Best for: lines of credit at Prime + 1 to 4, term loans at 7% to 11%, real estate.
- Not for: under two years in business, credit under 680, money needed inside two weeks.

Online Lenders and Revenue-Based Funders
Online lenders are where speed and approval odds live: 29% of 2026 applicants used one, and revenue-based products had the lowest denial rate of any product (12% for merchant cash advances). The price is 10% to 36% APR on online term loans and lines and a 1.15 to 1.45 factor on revenue-based financing, and the risk is disclosure: 60% of online borrowers paid more than they expected.
- Bring: three months of business bank statements, a voided check, ID; returns only above about $150,000.
- Expect: a soft pull to pre-qualify, sizing at one to one and a half times monthly deposits, daily or weekly payments on revenue-based products.
- Best for: six to 24 months in business, credit 500 to 680, funding in one to five days.
- Not for: amounts above two times monthly deposits, long terms, anyone who can wait for a bank.

Finance Companies, SBA Lenders and CDFIs
- Equipment lenders and captives fund the equipment itself at 6% to 24% with the highest full-approval rate of any product (71%); apply through the vendor, a specialist or a broker. See best equipment financing companies.
- Factors and A/R lenders fund invoices to creditworthy business customers at 1% to 4% per 30 days with no revenue minimum; see A/R financing.
- SBA lenders (Newtek was the most active 7(a) lender by loan count in fiscal 2026) offer 10.00% to 13.50% on up to $5 million over up to 25 years, in 30 to 60 days, for two-year-plus files with 680+ credit; see best SBA lenders.
- CDFIs and nonprofit lenders make $5,000 to $250,000 loans at 8% to 15% to businesses banks decline, often with training attached; slower, and best for smaller amounts.
When a Broker Is the Right Place to Start
A broker is the right first stop when you do not know which of the sources above will say yes, when your file has a complication (under two years, credit under 680, an existing advance, a seasonal business), or when you need offers compared on the same day without serial hard inquiries. RAN Funding takes one soft-pull application and presents it across banks, SBA lenders, online lenders, equipment lenders, factors and revenue-based funders, then shows the offers side by side with total payback. The checklist for choosing one is in how to choose a business funding broker and the comparison in broker vs direct lender vs marketplace.
- Strong, simple file and no rush: go to your bank or credit union first, then an SBA lender.
- Specific asset or invoices: go to an equipment lender or factor.
- Young, weaker or complicated file, or money needed this week: go to a broker or an online lender.
- Unsure: apply once through RAN Funding and let the offers tell you which source fits.
What Happens After You Apply With RAN Funding
Your application is handled in house. One RAN Funding specialist reads your statements the same day, presents the file to the best-matched funders in our network for the best deal (not to a list of a hundred), brings the approvals back and compares total payback, payment and term with you. Your information is not resold as a lead, and you are not contacted by lenders you never chose; you hear from one person, in English or Spanish, from the first call through funding and renewal.
- One application, one soft pull, three months of bank statements.
- One specialist, not a call list.
- Offers side by side with total payback before you decide.
- Business financing only: working capital, lines of credit, term loans, equipment, receivables and SBA.
How this differs from a loan marketplace is laid out in RAN Funding vs. Lendio, Fundera and LendingTree.
Common Questions
Is it better to get a business loan from a bank or an online lender?
A bank if you qualify (two years in business, 680+ credit, documentation, time): 7% to 11% against 10% to 36% online. An online lender if you do not, or if you need money inside a week: online lenders approved more files in 2026 and funded in one to five days. A broker compares both on one application.
Which bank is easiest to get a business loan from?
The one that holds your deposits. By the Federal Reserve’s 2026 data, small and community banks fully approved 57% of applicants, the highest of any lender type, and credit unions left 76% of borrowers satisfied. Large banks approve fewer small files but price similarly.
Where can I get a business loan fast?
Online lenders and revenue-based funders fund in one to five days, same day on complete morning applications for revenue-based products. Banks and SBA lenders take two to eight weeks. A broker returns multiple fast offers in hours.
Where can I get a business loan with bad credit?
Revenue-based funders (from about 500), equipment lenders (from about 550 with a down payment), factors (your customers’ credit, not yours) and CDFIs. Banks and SBA lenders want 680 or higher. See bad credit business loans for options by score.
Should I use a business loan broker?
Use one when your file has any complication or you want several lenders to quote the same day without multiple hard inquiries. Choose a broker that pre-qualifies with a soft pull, gives written offers with total payback and states plainly that it is a broker.
Is RAN Funding a lender?
No. RAN Funding is a business financing broker. We present your application to our lender network and show you the offers you qualify for; the funding partner sets the approval, amount, rate, fees and terms.
