Equipment financing · Speed
How Fast Is Equipment Financing?
App-only deals are approved in hours and funded in two to three days. Larger, full-financial deals take one to two weeks. Here is the stage-by-stage timeline, what makes it faster, and what makes it slower — including the December Section 179 crunch.

How Long Does Equipment Financing Take?
On an application-only deal (up to $300,000): a credit decision within hours of a complete application, documents the same or next day, and the vendor paid 48 to 72 hours after signing — typically two to four business days from quote to funded. On a full-financial deal (above $300,000, or any deal needing tax returns): three to ten business days. Titled vehicles add a day or two for title work and insurance; private-party used equipment adds an inspection. Bank and SBA equipment loans run one to three weeks and 30 to 90 days respectively.
The Timeline, Stage by Stage
| Stage | App-only (≤ $300K) | Full-financial (> $300K) | What you control |
|---|---|---|---|
| Application | 30 minutes | 1–2 days to assemble | Quote, 3 months of statements, ID ready |
| Credit decision | 2–24 hours | 2–5 days | Answer questions same day |
| Documents | Same or next day (e-sign) | 1–3 days | Insurance certificate, entity docs |
| Vendor invoice and delivery confirmation | Depends on vendor | Depends on vendor | Confirm the vendor can invoice and deliver |
| Funding | 48–72 hours after signing | 2–5 days after signing | Nothing; the lender pays the vendor |
| Total | 2–4 business days | 3–10 business days |

What Makes It Faster
- A real quote or invoice with the vendor’s details, serial/VIN and delivery date.
- Three clean months of statements submitted with the application, not after.
- Staying under the app-only limit where possible: a $280,000 deal is approved in hours; a $320,000 deal needs returns.
- Insurance lined up for titled vehicles so the certificate is ready at signing.
- A dealer purchase rather than a private sale, which needs an inspection and title work.
- Answering the underwriter within hours. Most delays are a lender waiting on the borrower.
What Makes It Slower
- Used equipment from a private seller: lien search, inspection, escrow — add three to seven days.
- Vendors who cannot issue a proper invoice or who need a deposit before delivery.
- Multiple merchant cash advances on the statements, which trigger questions or a payoff condition.
- Specialized equipment that needs an appraisal.
- December. Vendors, lenders and titling offices all back up in the last two weeks of the year.
The Section 179 Deadline
Equipment must be placed in service — delivered and ready to use — by 31 December to be expensed in 2026. Financing is rarely the bottleneck; delivery is. Trucks and machinery can carry lead times of weeks, and December is the busiest month of the year for every equipment lender. Have the financing approved and the vendor confirmed in October or November, and leave the last two weeks of December for buffer. See Section 179 and equipment financing.
Compared With Other Funding
Equipment financing is slower than a merchant cash advance (same day) and about the same speed as a term loan or line of credit (24–72 hours) — but much cheaper than the first and better matched to the asset than the others. For an emergency replacement — a failed compressor, a truck off the road — some owners use a working-capital product today and refinance into an equipment loan within the week. Common Questions
Can I get equipment financing the same day?
A same-day approval is common on app-only deals; same-day funding is rare because the vendor invoice, signed documents and delivery confirmation have to be in place. Two to four business days is realistic.
What is application-only equipment financing?
A program that approves deals up to a limit (commonly $150,000 to $300,000, higher at some lenders) on a one-page application and bank statements, without tax returns or financial statements. It is the fastest route.
How long does it take to finance a semi-truck?
Two to five business days for a dealer unit on an app-only program, including title and insurance. Private-party and owner-operator start-up deals take longer because of inspections and documentation.
Can I get approved before I pick the equipment?
Yes. Many lenders issue a pre-approval for an amount and equipment type so you can shop and bid with confidence; the final approval is updated when the quote comes in.
