RAN Funding vs. Lendio, Fundera and LendingTree: What Happens to Your Application at a Broker vs. a Lead Marketplace

Lendio, Fundera by NerdWallet and LendingTree are loan marketplaces: large, well-known sites that take an application and pass it into a network of lenders and partners. RAN Funding is a business financing broker: a specialist team that takes the same application, presents it to the funders it selects for your profile, and stays the one point of contact until you are funded. Both models can get a business funded. They differ in who handles your file, where your information goes, how the company is paid and what else the company does. This page sets the differences out from each company’s own disclosures so you can choose with the facts in front of you.

What Is the Difference Between a Loan Marketplace and a Business Financing Broker?

A loan marketplace such as Lendio (which says it works with 100+ lenders and funders), Fundera by NerdWallet or LendingTree collects your application online and submits it to lenders and other partners in its network; the partners then decide whether to make an offer, and their own privacy policies govern what they do with your information afterward. The marketplace is paid by lenders for referrals or funded loans, and Lendio’s disclosures note that this compensation may affect where offers are placed. A business financing broker such as RAN Funding takes the same application but handles it in house: one specialist reviews your file, presents it to the best-matched funders in our network for your profile and the best deal for you, and brings back the approvals so you can compare them side by side. Your application is not resold as a lead, and you are not contacted by a list of lenders; you hear from one person at RAN Funding. RAN Funding works only in business financing (working capital, lines of credit, term loans, equipment, receivables, SBA), while NerdWallet and LendingTree also run mortgage, personal loan, credit card and insurance marketplaces. RAN Funding is paid by the lender, not by you.

What Happens to Your Application After You Submit It

  1. At a marketplace: your application and contact details enter a system that matches them to lenders and partners. Several may receive the file; each decides independently whether to offer, and each contacts you or not on its own schedule. Their privacy policies, not the marketplace’s, govern what happens to your information afterward.
  2. At RAN Funding: a specialist reads your bank statements and application the same day, matches it to the funders in our network most likely to give you the best deal (credit tier, industry, time in business, amount, existing positions), presents it to those and shows you the approvals that come back. We do not blast it to a hundred lenders, and we do not sell it.
  3. Offers: at a marketplace you collect and compare them yourself (or with an account manager at some); at RAN Funding your specialist brings them back, lays out total payback, payment and term side by side, and tells you which fits and why, including when the answer is to wait or to take a smaller amount.
  4. Follow-up: at RAN Funding, the same specialist handles the funding call, the renewal and the next request. In the Federal Reserve’s 2026 survey, 60% of online-lender borrowers said they paid more than they expected; one person who explains the offer is how that number goes down.

Apply once, talk to one specialist

Why the Difference Matters

  • Fewer calls, less noise. A file placed with the best-matched funders produces real offers at the best available terms; a file broadcast to a network produces many contacts, not all of them offers.
  • Your information stays with the people underwriting it. Funders need your statements to make an offer; a marketing partner does not.
  • Specialists know the lenders. We place business files every day and know which funder will approve a 580-credit contractor with $40,000 a month and which will not; a marketplace algorithm routes by rules.
  • Incentives are visible. Marketplaces disclose that lender payments can affect placement. At RAN Funding the specialist’s job is to get the file funded on terms you will keep paying, because renewals and referrals are the business.
  • Honest limits. If your file is bank-ready, your own bank may beat us both; we will say so.

Lendio Alternatives, and When Each Fits

Option Fits when Trade-off
RAN Funding (broker) You want one specialist, a curated set of funders, business financing only, English or Spanish We tell you when a bank is the better route
Your bank or credit union Two years of returns, 680+ credit, time to wait; lowest cost Weeks, not days; declines are common for younger files
A direct online lender You already know the product you want and qualify One product, one price; no comparison
Another marketplace (Fundera, LendingTree) You prefer to compare offers yourself and are comfortable with multiple contacts Same model as Lendio, with the same data and incentive questions

How to Check Any Funding Site Before You Apply

  • Read the “how we are paid” or advertiser disclosure. Every legitimate marketplace and broker has one; it tells you who the customer really is.
  • Read the privacy policy for the words “partners,” “share” and “marketing.” That is where you learn whether your application becomes a lead.
  • Ask who will call you. One named person, or “our lending partners”?
  • Ask what they do not do. Business-only firms know business files; multi-product sites know volume.
  • Ask for the written offer with total payback before you sign anything, wherever you apply. Ten states now require it on commercial financing of $500,000 or less.

Common Questions

Is Lendio legit?

Yes. Lendio is an established business loan marketplace that states it works with more than 100 lenders and funders and that it is not a lender and does not make credit decisions. Its disclosures also state that lenders may pay Lendio for referrals or funded loans and that this may affect how offers are placed. The question to ask any marketplace is where your application goes and who contacts you afterward.

Does LendingTree sell your information?

LendingTree’s privacy policy (updated April 2024) says it discloses your information to Network Partners (lenders and other third parties) to provide the product you requested, that those partners may use or keep your information even if you do not use their services, and that it also discloses personal information to marketing and advertising partners. Whether that counts as a “sale” under your state’s law depends on the law; read the policy’s section on your state’s rights before applying.

Is Fundera a lender?

No. Fundera is a loan marketplace owned by NerdWallet that matches business owners with lenders and business credit cards and is compensated by its partners. Lenders in its marketplace set the terms.

Is RAN Funding a marketplace?

No. RAN Funding is a business financing broker. One specialist handles your application, presents it to the funders in our network that fit your profile and brings the offers back. Your application is not resold as a lead and you are not contacted by a list of lenders. RAN Funding is paid by the lender, not by you.

Which is better, a broker or a marketplace?

A marketplace suits owners who want to compare many offers themselves and are comfortable with multiple contacts. A broker suits owners who want one specialist to curate the funders, explain the offers and handle the process, and who want their information to go only to the lenders underwriting it. Both are legitimate; read each one’s disclosures and choose.

Is RAN Funding a lender?

No. RAN Funding is a business financing broker. We present your application to the funders in our network that fit your profile and show you the offers you qualify for; the funding partner sets the approval, amount, rate, fees and terms.

A note on this article. RAN Funding is a business financing broker, not a lender and not the SBA. This guide explains published program rules and typical lender practice, not a personalized loan offer. Your lender determines eligibility, fees, timing and final terms. Confirm every cost in a written offer before committing.
