How Long Does Business Loan Approval Take? Timelines by Loan Type
Business loan approval takes anywhere from a few hours to two months, and the difference is almost entirely the product and the lender type. This guide gives the realistic 2026 timelines for each loan type from application to money in the account, what happens at each stage, what slows a file down and how to get approved faster.
How Long Does It Take to Get Approved for a Business Loan?
Online short-term loans, revenue-based financing and merchant cash advances are typically approved within 4 to 24 hours and funded in 1 to 2 business days. Online lines of credit and term loans take 1 to 5 business days. Equipment financing takes 2 to 7 business days. Invoice factoring takes 3 to 10 business days for a first facility. Bank term loans and lines take 2 to 6 weeks. SBA 7(a) loans take 30 to 60 days with a preferred lender and 60 to 90 days otherwise; SBA 504 loans take 60 to 120 days. A complete file on day one is the single biggest factor in landing at the short end of each range.

What Happens Between Applying and Funding
- Application and soft pull (minutes). Basic business details and consent for a soft credit check.
- Document review (hours to days). Bank statements, and for larger or longer loans, tax returns, a profit and loss statement and a balance sheet.
- Underwriting (hours for revenue-based, days for online, weeks for banks and SBA). Cash flow, credit, existing debt, industry and collateral.
- Offer and acceptance (same day). The approval states amount, cost, term and payment. Compare before signing.
- Verification and closing (hours to weeks). Bank login or voided check, a merchant interview call, UCC filing, and for SBA, the authorization and closing documents.
- Funding (same day to a week). ACH or wire to the business account; equipment lenders usually pay the vendor directly.
What Slows Approval Down
- Missing pages or screenshots instead of full statements. The most common delay by far.
- Several business bank accounts without a note on which one receives sales.
- Unexplained large deposits or transfers, which trigger questions about loan proceeds or owner contributions.
- Existing advances not disclosed. The lender finds them on the statement or in the UCC search and starts over.
- Tax returns not filed or not matching the statements, on loans that require them.
- Ownership questions: missing operating agreements, a partner who has not signed, or an owner under 20% who needs to guarantee anyway.
- Applying to many lenders at once, which creates competing UCC filings and credit pulls and makes every lender hesitate.
- SBA specifics: business valuations on acquisitions, landlord waivers, life insurance assignments and environmental reports on real estate.
How to Get Approved Faster
- Send three full months of business bank statements as PDFs on day one (four in some states), plus the last tax return if you are asking for more than about $150,000.
- Use one operating account for sales and keep it free of negative days for 90 days before applying.
- Write a one-paragraph note on what the money is for and how it is repaid; underwriters move faster when they do not have to guess.
- Have your EIN letter, driver’s license, voided check and articles of organization ready for closing.
- Answer the verification call the same day; a missed call is often a lost day.
- Apply through one channel that pre-matches lenders rather than to ten lenders directly.
How Long RAN Funding Takes
Applications submitted with complete statements are reviewed by a specialist the same business day and matched to the lenders in the network whose criteria fit. Fast products (revenue-based, short-term, some lines) typically return offers within hours and fund in 24 to 48 hours. Equipment and receivables facilities fund in about a week. Bank and SBA files are prepared and submitted to the lender within a few days of the documents arriving, and then follow the lender’s 30- to 60-day process. RAN Funding is a business financing broker, not a lender; it is paid by the funding partner you choose.
Common Questions
How long does it take to get approved for a small business loan online?
Hours to a few days. Revenue-based and short-term products decide within a day; online lines and term loans within one to three days; funding follows within one to three business days.
How long does SBA loan approval take in 2026?
About 30 to 60 days with a preferred lender, which approves under delegated authority, and 60 to 90 days when the SBA reviews the file itself. SBA 504 loans take 60 to 120 days because of the second lender, appraisal and environmental steps.
Can a business loan be approved the same day?
Yes. Revenue-based financing, merchant cash advances and some short-term loans are approved the same day on complete bank statements, with funding the same day or the next business day.
Why is my business loan taking so long?
Usually missing documents, unanswered verification calls, undisclosed existing debt or an unusual item on the statements. Ask the lender what is outstanding; the answer is normally a specific document.
Does a broker make approval faster or slower?
Faster, when the broker pre-screens: your file goes only to lenders likely to approve it, with the documents each one wants, instead of restarting at each lender. It is slower if the broker shotguns the file to many lenders at once.
Is RAN Funding a lender?
No. RAN Funding is a broker that places your file with the lenders in its network and is paid by the lender you choose.
