Business Line of Credit for an LLC: Requirements, Limits and How to Apply

An LLC can open a business line of credit on the same terms as any other entity, and in one way more easily: lenders prefer a registered entity with its own bank account over a sole proprietorship, and several online line lenders will not fund sole proprietors at all. What changes for an LLC is the paperwork, the personal guarantee and how time in business is counted. This guide covers it for October 2026, with limits, rates at Prime 7.00% and a step-by-step application.

Can an LLC Get a Business Line of Credit?

Yes. An LLC with six to twelve months of operating history, $15,000 or more in monthly deposits into an account in the LLC’s name and member personal credit of 600 to 625 or higher qualifies for an online line of credit of roughly one to two times monthly deposits, opened in one to three days; two years and 680+ credit opens bank lines at Prime plus 1 to 4 (8% to 11% today). Every member with 20% or more ownership will be asked to sign a personal guarantee, so the LLC’s liability shield does not apply to the line. Lenders will want the articles of organization, the operating agreement, the EIN letter and three months of business bank statements. In the Federal Reserve’s 2026 survey, 45% of line applicants were approved in full and 24% denied.

Single-member LLCs file on Schedule C, so the lender reads your personal return; multi-member LLCs file Form 1065 and K-1s. Neither changes the approval odds, but bring the right one.

What Is Different for an LLC

  • The LLC’s own bank account is non-negotiable. Deposits into a personal account do not count, and a line is funded to and repaid from the LLC account.
  • Time in business usually starts at formation or first deposit. A new LLC for an existing business can look like a start-up; bring prior statements and the old entity’s history.
  • Personal guarantee from 20%+ members. The LLC protects members from ordinary business debts, not from a line they guaranteed. Members under 20% are usually not asked.
  • Authorization: the operating agreement should allow the signing member to borrow; some lenders ask for a resolution.
  • Business credit: lenders that report to Experian Business or Dun & Bradstreet build the LLC’s own profile, which helps on the next facility.
  • Sole proprietors are excluded at some lenders (Idea Financial, for example), which is a point in the LLC’s favor.

Common Questions

Can a new LLC get a business line of credit?

With three to six months of deposits, some online lenders will open a small line; most want six to twelve months. A brand-new LLC that took over an existing business should provide the prior entity’s statements to count that history.

Does an LLC line of credit require a personal guarantee?

Yes, from every member with 20% or more ownership at nearly every lender under $5 million. The LLC’s liability protection does not extend to a line the members personally guarantee.

Can a single-member LLC get a line of credit?

Yes, on the same terms as a multi-member LLC. Lenders read the owner’s personal return (Schedule C) and the LLC’s bank statements; a separate business account is required.

Does an LLC line of credit affect my personal credit?

The application usually involves a soft pull on the guarantors; some lenders run a hard inquiry at funding. Many report to business bureaus only. A default on a guaranteed line can reach your personal credit.

Is RAN Funding a lender?

No. RAN Funding is a business financing broker. We present your application to our lender network and show you the offers you qualify for; the funding partner sets the approval, amount, rate, fees and terms.
