Unsecured Business Line of Credit: Limits, Rates, Requirements and How to Get One
An unsecured business line of credit is a revolving limit you can draw against without pledging equipment, receivables or real estate. Lenders accept a personal guarantee and a UCC filing instead, which is why limits are lower and rates higher than secured lines. This guide covers typical unsecured limits by lender in October 2026, what they cost with Prime at 7.00%, who qualifies, and when a secured line is the better deal.

How Does an Unsecured Business Line of Credit Work?
An unsecured business line of credit gives you a limit, typically $10,000 to $250,000 online and up to $250,000 to $1 million at banks for strong files, that you draw and repay as needed, paying only on what is outstanding. No specific collateral is pledged; the lender relies on a personal guarantee from owners of 20% or more and usually files a blanket UCC lien. Online unsecured lines open in one to three days with six to twelve months in business, 600 to 625 personal credit and $15,000 a month in deposits, priced at 8% to 36% APR equivalent (often a 1.5% to 3% fee per draw). Bank unsecured lines need two years and 680+ credit and run Prime plus 1 to 4, about 8% to 11% today. In the Federal Reserve’s 2026 survey, 45% of line applicants were approved for the full limit.

What “unsecured” does not mean: no personal liability. The guarantee makes you personally responsible, and the UCC lien gives the lender a claim on business assets generally. See business line of credit requirements and easiest business line of credit.
When a Secured Line Beats an Unsecured One
- You need more than $250,000. Above that, nearly every line is secured by receivables, inventory or equipment.
- Your credit is under 600. Collateral replaces the score; unsecured lenders will not.
- You have receivables over $100,000. An A/R line or factoring facility is cheaper and grows with billing. See A/R financing.
- You want bank pricing without bank credit. A secured line from an asset-based lender often prices between online and bank rates.
- You already have an unsecured line maxed out. A second unsecured line is rarely approved; a secured one may be.
How to Get an Unsecured Business Line of Credit
- Download three months of business bank statements and a voided check; banks also need returns and financials.
- Apply through RAN Funding to see online, secured and bank line offers on one soft pull.
- Compare the draw fee or APR and the per-draw repayment term, not just the limit.
- Open it before you need it and draw lightly; limits are raised at three to six months for clean history.
- Ask about a secured upgrade once receivables or equipment justify it.
Common Questions
What is the maximum unsecured business line of credit?
Online lenders cap unsecured lines at about $250,000 (up to $500,000 through a broker); community banks go to $500,000 to $1 million for strong files; SBA Express lines reach $500,000. Above those amounts, lines are secured by receivables, inventory or real estate.
Does an unsecured business line of credit require a personal guarantee?
Almost always, from every owner of 20% or more, plus a blanket UCC filing on business assets. “Unsecured” means no specific collateral is pledged, not that there is no personal liability.
What credit score do I need for an unsecured business line of credit?
About 600 to 625 for online lines, 650+ for the best online pricing and 680+ for bank lines. Below 600, a secured line or revenue-based financing is the realistic route.
How fast can I get an unsecured line of credit?
Online unsecured lines open in one to three business days after a complete application, with draws the same or next day. Bank lines take two to six weeks.
Is RAN Funding a lender?
No. RAN Funding is a business financing broker. We present your application to our lender network and show you the offers you qualify for; the funding partner sets the approval, amount, rate, fees and terms.
