Business Loans for Women-Owned Businesses: Options, Certifications and What Actually Gets Approved

Women own about four in ten U.S. businesses and, in the Federal Reserve’s surveys, apply for financing at similar rates to men but are approved in full less often. The practical answer is not a special loan product (there is no “women’s business loan” from the SBA or any lender) but knowing which products approve on deposits rather than history, which certifications open contracts and lender programs, and how to present a file. This guide covers both for established women-owned businesses in October 2026, with costs at Prime 7.00%.

Are There Business Loans Specifically for Women?

Not as separate loan products: lenders and the SBA underwrite the business, not the owner’s gender, and the same products apply. What women-owned businesses can use are (1) SBA 7(a) and Express loans through lenders that participate in the SBA’s Women’s Business Centers and Community Advantage programs, (2) WBENC and state or city women-business-enterprise (WBE) certification, which opens corporate and government contracts and some lender outreach programs, and (3) the deposit-based products that approve on six months of bank statements rather than years of history: revenue-based financing from 500 credit and $20,000 a month, online lines of credit and term loans from 600 credit and $20,000 a month, equipment financing from 550 credit, and invoice factoring for businesses that sell to other businesses. Grants exist (Amber Grant, state programs) but are small and competitive; they supplement, not replace, financing.

What Women-Owned Businesses Borrow For

The uses are the same as any established business; the point is matching each to the product that approves most often.

Working capital for payroll, inventory, marketing $15K – $100K Line of credit or term loan Approves on deposits from a year in business (sometimes six months)
Equipment and vehicles $10K – $500K Equipment financing Most-approved product (71% in full in 2026)

Bridging a bank decline $10K – $75K Revenue-based financing 24 – 48 hours; credit from 500

Business Funding Products That Fit Women-Owned Businesses

If a bank said no, the next step is usually not a grant search but a deposit-based product that reads the last three months, not the last three years.

Product Amounts Cost at Prime 7.00% Minimums Funds in
Business line of credit $10K – $250K online; more secured 1.5% – 3% per draw (online); Prime + 1 to 4 bank 6 mo, 600+, $20K/mo 1 – 3 days
Term loan $20K – $500K 10% – 36% APR online; 7% – 11% bank 12 mo, 600+, $20K/mo 2 – 5 days
Revenue-based financing $10K – $1M Factor 1.15 – 1.45 6 mo, 500+, $20K/mo 24 – 48 h
Equipment financing $10K – $5M 9.9% – 24% (6% – 12% bank) 6 – 12 mo, 550 – 600+ 2 – 7 days
Invoice factoring / A/R line $20K – $5M 1% – 4% per 30 days B2B invoices, creditworthy customers 3 – 7 days
SBA 7(a) $50K – $5M 10.00% – 13.50% 2 yrs, 680+, no open advances 30 – 60 days

Current ranges by product and lender are in business loan interest rates; what each product requires is in business loan requirements.

How Lenders Read Women-Owned Business Files

  • Deposits, not history. Online and revenue-based lenders size on monthly deposits; six months in a business account is enough to start.
  • Certification helps with customers more than lenders, but WBE/WBENC status plus a signed contract is strong evidence for factoring and PO financing.
  • Separate business banking is the single biggest fix for a file that keeps getting declined.
  • Personal credit still drives pricing; 600 opens lines and term loans, 680 opens banks and SBA.
  • Ask about Women’s Business Center lenders for SBA loans under $350,000, where the SBA fee relief and technical assistance apply.

How RAN Funding Places Women-Owned Business Deals

We place women-owned business files with the same funders as any file, chosen for the profile: deposit-based funders for younger businesses, factors for contract-driven ones, and bank and SBA lenders when the file qualifies. One application, best-matched funders, approvals side by side, in English or Spanish.

  1. Apply once with a soft pull and the last three months of business bank statements (four in NY, CA or VA).
  2. A specialist reads the file the same day and presents it to the best-matched funders in our network for the best deal.
  3. You see the approvals side by side with total payback, payment and term, and decide.
  4. Funding in 24 hours to 5 days on most products; SBA in 30 to 60 days.

Common Questions

Does WBE or WBENC certification help me get a loan?

Indirectly. It opens corporate and government contracts, and those contracts are what lenders finance (factoring, PO financing). A few lenders run outreach programs for certified firms, but underwriting is the same.

Are there SBA loans for women?

The SBA has no women-only loan, but its Women’s Business Centers connect owners with participating lenders and counseling, and SBA 7(a) loans under $350,000 carry reduced fees. The requirements are the standard ones: two years, 680+ credit, no open advances.

What is the easiest business loan for a woman-owned business to get?

Equipment financing when there is equipment to buy (71% approved in full in 2026), and revenue-based financing for working capital (approves from 500 credit on six months of deposits).

Are grants a realistic source of capital?

Occasionally and in small amounts ($5,000 to $25,000) with long timelines. Treat them as a bonus and plan the financing separately.

Is RAN Funding a lender?

No. RAN Funding is a business financing broker. We present your application to the funders in our network that fit your profile and show you the approvals that come back; the funding partner sets the approval, amount, rate, fees and terms. RAN Funding is paid by the lender, not by you.
