Large loans
How to get a $1 million business loan
A million dollars is a realistic number for an established business with the revenue to support it. What decides the outcome is how the request is sized, which route you choose and how well the file is prepared. Here is how it works.

Can a business get a $1 million loan?
Yes. An established business with strong, consistent revenue can qualify for a $1 million business loan through large working capital programs, Business Term Loans, a business line of credit or an SBA loan. Through RAN Funding, amounts up to $2 million can be funded in as little as 72 hours once approved, and SBA loans reach up to $10 million over a longer timeline. The amount is sized on your deposits, cash flow and time in business.
What it takes to qualify for $1 million
Lenders do not approve a million dollars on a good story. They approve it on evidence that the business can carry it. Four things do most of the work:
- Revenue. The loan is sized against your monthly deposits. A seven-figure request needs revenue large enough that the payments are a comfortable share of what comes in.
- Time in business. Most clients have 1+ year in business. At $1 million, a track record of 2+ years makes a file noticeably stronger.
- Cash flow. Steady deposits, a healthy average balance and few negative days show that the business manages money well.
- Existing obligations. Open balances reduce how much new funding the file supports.
For bank-style and SBA loans, lenders also look at whether yearly cash flow covers yearly loan payments with room to spare. A cushion of roughly a quarter above the payments is a common benchmark.
Four routes to a $1 million business loan
| Route | Speed | Best for | What it needs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large working capital | As little as 72 hours once approved | Time-sensitive needs backed by strong monthly deposits | Bank statements; financials for larger amounts |
| Business Term Loans | As little as 72 hours to a few weeks | Expansion, equipment, acquisitions and longer payback | Typically 2+ years in business and full financials |
| Business line of credit | Open in 48–72 hours once approved | A large limit you draw from as needed, up to $2,000,000 | Strong revenue and account history |
| SBA loan | Typically 30 to 60 days | The longest terms, when the project can wait | 2+ years in business, two years of tax returns |
Many seven-figure fundings combine two routes, for example a term loan for the project and a line of credit for working capital. Our guide to large business loans compares every option up to $2 million and beyond.
How long does a $1 million loan take?
It depends on the route, not only the amount.
- As little as 72 hours once approved for large working capital and Business Term Loans placed through our lender network, when the file is complete.
- 48–72 hours to open a business line of credit once approved.
- 30 to 60 days for an SBA loan.
- Several weeks to months for a traditional bank loan.
A million-dollar file involves more verification than a small one, so same-day and 24-hour timelines are not realistic at this size. If part of the need is urgent, a smaller amount can move first: see fast business funding, business loans in 24 hours and same day business loans.
Documents for a $1 million business loan
- Application with business and ownership details.
- Business bank statements. The last 3 months to start (4 in California, New York and Virginia). Expect to be asked for more history at this size.
- Year-to-date profit and loss statement and balance sheet.
- Most recent business tax return. Two years for SBA loans.
- A list of existing business debts with balances and payments.
- Use of funds. A short summary, plus the contract, purchase order or quote behind it when there is one.
- The owner’s photo ID.
You do not need all of it to get started. Your specialist reviews your statements first and tells you exactly what your file needs.
Is $1 million the right number?
Ask for what the project needs, not a round number. Before you apply:
- Add up the real cost. Include equipment, build-out, inventory, hiring and a cushion for delays.
- Check what your revenue supports. If the payments would squeeze daily operations, a smaller amount or a longer term is the better deal. See how much business funding you can qualify for.
- Consider stepping up. Some businesses start with $500,000 and add more as the project proves out.
- Estimate the return. The money should earn more for the business than it costs.
What businesses do with $1 million
- Open new locations or expand into a larger space.
- Buy major equipment or add a production line.
- Take on a large contract that requires materials and labor upfront.
- Acquire another business.
- Build inventory ahead of a major season or a new retail account.
- Consolidate existing balances into a single funding. See business debt consolidation.
Why $1 million requests get turned down
- Revenue too thin for the amount. The most common reason. The fix is a smaller request or a longer term.
- Too many open balances. Existing obligations leave no room for new payments.
- Incomplete financials. Missing statements or out-of-date books stall large files.
- An unclear use of funds. “Working capital” is fine at $50,000. At $1 million, lenders want specifics.
- Declining deposits. A downward trend over recent months raises questions.
How a $1 million request is reviewed
- Statements first. Your specialist reads your business bank statements to see monthly deposits, average balances and existing obligations. This sets a realistic range before anything else happens.
- Route selection. Based on your timeline and paperwork, the request is pointed to large working capital, Business Term Loans, a line of credit or SBA.
- Financials. For larger amounts, a year-to-date profit and loss statement, balance sheet and most recent tax return confirm what the statements show.
- Offers. You see amount, term and total cost side by side, and choose with no obligation.
- Final verification and funding. Signature, a verification call and funding, in as little as 72 hours once approved on the fast route.
$1 million fast, or $1 million through SBA?
| Fast route | SBA loan | |
|---|---|---|
| Timeline | As little as 72 hours once approved | Typically 30 to 60 days |
| Built for | Established businesses with strong monthly deposits | 2+ years in business and $250,000+ in annual revenue on two years of business tax returns |
| Paperwork | Bank statements, plus financials for larger amounts | Full package including two years of business and personal tax returns |
| Term | Shorter | The longest available |
| Total cost | Usually higher | Usually lower |
| Best when | The opportunity has a date on it | The project can wait |
Some owners use both: fast funding to act now, and an SBA loan in parallel for the long-term piece. More in SBA loan vs term loan.
One loan, or two?
A million dollars does not have to arrive as a single product. Common structures:
- One term loan for a single defined project, such as an acquisition or a major equipment purchase.
- A term loan plus a line of credit. The loan funds the project, and the line of credit covers the working capital the project creates.
- Stepped funding. A first amount now, with more added as the project proves out and revenue grows.
- Consolidation plus new capital. Existing balances are combined and new funds are added in the same transaction. See business debt consolidation.
The right structure is the one where the payments fit comfortably inside your cash flow.
A readiness checklist before you apply
- You can explain what the $1 million pays for, line by line.
- Your bookkeeping is current through last month.
- You have full PDF statements for every business bank account.
- You know every existing balance and what you pay on each.
- Your most recent business tax return is filed.
- You have the contract, purchase order or quote behind the request, if there is one.
- You have estimated what the funding will earn for the business.
- You know your real deadline.
If you can tick most of these, your file is ready. If not, your specialist can tell you which gaps matter for the route you choose.
