Fact-checking policy

What gets checked before a page is published on ranfunding.com, what it is checked against, and what happens when a figure cannot be confirmed.

How does RAN Funding fact-check its content?

Product terms, qualification requirements and timelines are checked against current funder guidelines and recent live files. Third-party statistics are confirmed against the primary source and cited with a date. Worked examples are recomputed and any placeholder rate is labelled in the sentence. A specialist who places the product reviews every page before publication, and any figure that cannot be confirmed is removed rather than softened.

What gets checked, and against what

Type of claim Checked against Example
Product terms Current funder guidelines in our network “Factor rates from 1.08”, “$10,000 to $2,000,000”
Qualification and documents What funders actually require on live files “Three months of bank statements; some states require four”
Timelines Funding times on recent files, stated as ranges “48 to 72 hours for a line of credit”
Third-party statistics The primary source, cited by name and date Federal Reserve Small Business Credit Survey figures
Laws and regulation The statute, regulator or a named law-firm summary State commercial financing disclosure laws
Worked examples The arithmetic is recomputed, and placeholder rates are labelled “$50,000 at a 1.20 factor repays $60,000”

The process before a page goes live

  • Draft. Written by the funding team, with every figure marked as either a network range, a cited statistic, or a labelled illustration.
  • Specialist review. A specialist who places the product reads the page for accuracy and for anything a real file would contradict. Unconfirmed bands are removed, not softened.
  • Source check. Every citation is opened and the figure is confirmed against the source as published, with its date. Secondary reporting is not used where the primary source is available.
  • Arithmetic check. Worked examples are recomputed. If an example uses a placeholder factor or rate, the sentence says so.
  • Compliance read. Nothing on the page may promise approval, describe a guaranteed rate, or characterise a product without stating who it is wrong for.

Sources we rely on

Primary sources first: the Federal Reserve Banks’ Small Business Credit Survey, the Small Business Administration, the Federal Trade Commission, state financial regulators and the text of state statutes. For legal summaries we cite the law firm or regulator by name. Trade-association data is used for industry pages and cited to the association. We do not cite anonymous industry “reports” or other lenders’ marketing.

When we are not sure

If a figure cannot be confirmed, the page says what is known and what is not. “Quoted per file” on a product table means exactly that: there is no published band we would stand behind, so none is printed. Eight pages on this site currently carry that wording while funder bands are confirmed.

Reporting an error

Email [email protected] with the page URL and the claim. Confirmed errors are corrected on the page, the review date is updated, and the change is noted in the page’s “About this page” block where it is material. Our editorial standards and content update policy describe the wider commitments this process serves.
