Why Houston businesses seek funding

Houston is still adding jobs. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics counted about 3.5 million nonfarm jobs in the Houston area in July 2026, up about 50,300 from a year earlier. That is a 1.5 percent gain, compared with 0.2 percent for the nation.

Growth is uneven. Construction employment rose 5.2 percent over the year to about 267,300 jobs. Professional and business services added about 17,700 jobs. Education and health services added about 9,800. Manufacturing and the mining sector, which includes oil and gas, each slipped by 0.8 percent.

Small firms carry much of this. The SBA Office of Advocacy reports 3.5 million small businesses in Texas, which is 99.8 percent of all Texas businesses.

The cash flow pressures we hear about most

  • Slow-paying customers. Energy service firms, industrial suppliers and subcontractors often wait 30 to 90 days to be paid while payroll runs every week.
  • Growth that outruns cash. A contractor who wins a bigger job needs materials, labor and equipment before the first draw arrives.
  • Storm season. Hurricane season runs from June through November. A closure of a few days, or a repair that cannot wait, can drain reserves.
  • Summer demand. Long, hot summers push HVAC contractors to add crews and inventory before the busy season pays off.
  • Energy cycles. When oil and gas activity shifts, the suppliers and service firms around it feel it in their deposits first.
  • Labor costs. Average weekly wages in the Houston area were $1,853 in the first quarter of 2026, above the U.S. average of $1,654.

In each case the business is healthy. The timing of cash is the problem. That is what working capital and a business line of credit are designed to solve.

How fast funding moves in Houston

Speed depends on how complete your file is.

2. Specialist review Your dedicated specialist reads the statements and calls you about your goals. Same business day
3. Decision Your file goes to the lenders in our network that fit your business. Decisions in hours on complete files
4. Compare options Your specialist walks you through amount, term and total repaid. Same day or next day
5. Funding You sign, the lender completes final verification and sends the funds. As little as 24–48 hours once approved

Up to $2 million can be funded in as little as 72 hours once approved. SBA loans typically take 30–60 days. See fast business funding and business loans in 24 hours.

Who qualifies

Our programs are built for established businesses: most clients have 1+ year in business and $20,000+ in monthly revenue. Lenders in the network look mainly at how the business performs.

  • Monthly deposits. Steady revenue going into a business bank account.
  • Cash flow. Healthy daily balances and few overdrafts or returned items.
  • Time in business. A longer operating history opens more options.
  • Existing obligations. What the business already pays on other financing.

The amount is sized on those four things. Your specialist gives you a realistic range after reading your statements. No approval is certain until a lender has reviewed the file. Read business loan requirements and how much business funding you can qualify for.

What to have ready

  • A short application.
  • The last 3 months of business bank statements, every page, in PDF form.

Personal bank statements do not count. The statements must come from the business account. See business bank statements for a loan.

Larger amounts often add a year-to-date profit and loss statement, a balance sheet, the most recent business tax return and a list of existing debts. If you expect to ask for a larger amount, gather these early.

What it costs

We will be direct. Faster funding usually costs more in total than bank financing. You are paying for speed and a short document list.

The cost of any offer depends on your revenue, cash flow, time in business, the product and the term. We do not quote pricing in an article because it would not be accurate for your business. Instead, your specialist will:

  • Show you the total amount repaid on every option, in dollars.
  • Show you the term and the payment schedule next to it.
  • Tell you plainly if a slower route, such as an SBA loan, is likely to cost less.

Compare the total amount repaid and the term, not just the amount offered. Our business funding calculators can help.

Illustrative Houston scenarios

These examples are illustrations only. They are not real clients, and they are not rules about who is approved.

The mechanical contractor. Picture an HVAC company in Spring Branch heading into May. The owner wants to add two crews and stock equipment before the first heat wave. Suppliers want payment now. Working capital bridges the gap, and the owner compares the total repaid against the extra summer revenue.

The industrial supplier. Picture a fabrication shop near Pasadena with a large purchase order from a plant. The order pays 60 days after it ships. A business line of credit lets the owner buy steel, draw only what is needed and pay it down when the invoice clears.

The restaurant group. Picture a two-location restaurant in the Heights that loses a week of sales after a storm. The walk-in needs repair and staff still need to be paid. The owner applies on a Monday with statements ready and reviews options the same day. See emergency business loans.
